Ok, so I'm all about helping job seekers find and get that dream job. But what happens after you get your job offer?
I thought I would take the week and talk about getting ready for that first big day in your new job.
1. Dress for Success
Your first day will also be photo day as many companies will take your photo for your ID. Make sure what you're wearing is what you want others to see for the next 5-10- maybe 30 years.
Wear dress pants, collar shirts and closed toe shoes on your first day. Leave the leggings, blue jeans and flip flops (yes, I remember a new hire telling me "but I paid $60 for these flip flops") at home.
Remove your piercings and cover your tattoos until you learn of the company's policy regarding piercings, hair color and tattoos.
Remember be prepared and dress for success!

Where was I at 9:03 am on Tuesday, September 11, 2001?
I was behind closed doors, participating in an oral board - interviewing hopeful new firefighters. I remember the knock at the door and wondering what would be so important as to interrupt the interview process. It was our HR Assistant Mona, quite shaken she told us that “We are under attack.” I hadn’t a clue as to what she was referring to, but quickly excused myself to find out if she was okay.
I can’t even remember if we continued to finish the interview or if it stopped in the middle. I remember Mona pulling in our department’s audio-visual TV that we used for training as we watched the towers collapse. As a wife of a police officer and as a member of the City of Naples along with our police officers and fire fighters, it all became an anxious blur.
My life, like so many others, changed that day. Nothing was ever taken for granted after that day. It affected my 16-year-old son who went on to serve in the Mid-East as a lieutenant with the Florida National Guard. And at work, the answers to the question “Tell me about your most stressful event” for the police and fire candidates - changed from family or school events to stories of surviving military service in the Mid-East.
When it becomes stagnant and there's no winds of change coming, pull out the oars and row away.
You always have choices.

Many of my clients respond that their number 1 weakness is being a perfectionist. Perfect is great...but it can cause progress to slow to a stop. It can cause self doubt or cause some to not start at all.
Don't let the fear of not being perfect stop you from reaching your goals. Simply... don't let fear stop you!
