![]() Gold Star Achievement!! I don’t usually single out my clients, but I am today: Jenny was referred to me by another successful client. At the time my schedule was full, but Jenny talked me into adding her to my schedule. Jenny was determined from the start and she wanted multiple Skype meetings each week. She was always ready for new and more difficult mock interview questions. Jenny improved her English, cultural mannerisms and learned how to use her past work experience to sell her skills in the American workplace. It wasn’t quick or easy for her as we started working together in July. But she never gave up, she would reach out to me each time she had an upcoming interview. She knew that with each interview, she was getting better at the process. So very happy to say Jenny started her new job as an Education Consultant this past Monday. She gets the Gold Star for Determination, Perseverance and Going for what she’s always dreamed of! Congratulations Jenny!! #perservance #seekingassistance #nevergiveup

![]() We used to have this conversation at work… cover letter yes or no? As a recruiter, I scan the resume to see if the applicant meets minimum qualifications. I don’t much bother with the cover letters. However… and this is big however… hiring managers love the cover letters! Some absolutely require them. Cover letters should include what you know about the company you are applying for and why you are a good fit for this position. It’s more personal and can explain some things that your resume can’t. It gives hiring managers a snapshot of your motivation and character. Yes, do include cover letters. #coverletter #jobsearch #resume #careercoaching ![]() Holland, Michigan is where it's happening! Holland is a lucky City to gain the three of you!! #successstartshere #HollandMI #newjobs #congrats Learning Names
First impressions can have a serious impact on your business success. Try these tips in remembering names to help you in your new job! 1. Repeat the name as many times as you can. "Nice to meet you Bob" and "Thank you Bob" will help you to remember next time you meet Bob. 2. Don't be having another conversation in your head. Meaning, be present and engaged with person you are meeting. Don't worry about what you're going to say next. Pay attention and learn the person's name who you are being introduced to. 3. Connect the name with a visual image. It could a facial characteristic or a visual word play - such as Jane Carr may be associated like " I wonder which car Jane drives?", etc. 4. Link the new name with something or someone you already know. Using past experiences associate new names with people you knew in similar roles, such as Judy is "Diane" as she takes care of payroll, etc. 5. Don't be afraid to ask for people's names. If you approach someone to ask for their name, that becomes a good ice breaker and relationship builder. Most people would rather you ask for their name than to be not acknowledged. Be ready to complete a lot of forms.
Bring with you forms of identification and authorization to work; such as driver's license, social security card, US passport or birth certificate. If not a US citizen; bring your Visa and forms of work authorization. To complete insurance forms; make a list of your dependents with their birthdates and social security numbers. Bring a copy of your marriage certificate as well. Last but not least, do your tax homework before filling out your tax forms. Know how many exemptions you want and can claim. Remember the more exemptions you claim, the bigger your paycheck - but also the bigger tax liability you will have. hashtag#I9form hashtag#insuranceforms hashtag#taxes Ok, so I'm all about helping job seekers find and get that dream job. But what happens after you get your job offer?
I thought I would take the week and talk about getting ready for that first big day in your new job. 1. Dress for Success Your first day will also be photo day as many companies will take your photo for your ID. Make sure what you're wearing is what you want others to see for the next 5-10- maybe 30 years. Wear dress pants, collar shirts and closed toe shoes on your first day. Leave the leggings, blue jeans and flip flops (yes, I remember a new hire telling me "but I paid $60 for these flip flops") at home. Remove your piercings and cover your tattoos until you learn of the company's policy regarding piercings, hair color and tattoos. Remember be prepared and dress for success! #dresscode #firstdayofwork #beprofessional |
